Best of Comic Con Videos

by Michael Schondek on Jul.28, 2010, under Movie News

This is just a quick update while Joe and I recover fully from the Comic Con experience. The video above has Ryan Renolds at the Green Lantern panel saying the Green Lantern oath. I get chills every time. Below the jump is the cast of the Avengers fully assembled. They’ll be more on both of these stories real soon as well as thoughts and just things you need to see from Comic Con 2010. (continue reading…)

Inception: Redeemer of 2010

by Alicia Masse on Jul.28, 2010, under Movie News

Let’s face it, 2010 has not been such a hot year for movies. Though many of us assumed it would be tough to follow up 2009 on the awesome scale after movies like Star Trek, Zombieland and Inglourious Basterds, it’s as if nobody is even trying. Up until last night, my favorite movie of 2010 was hands down The A-Team, closely followed by Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me. My world was shifted last night after watching Christopher Nolan’s newest venture, Inception. (continue reading…)

Cyrus: Mumbly Nonsense

by Tom Paquin on Jul.12, 2010, under Reviews

Cyrus

Cantankerous loner as I am, my understanding of the Concept of “Mumblecore” was more or less reserved to the rationale that a bunch of scruffy-faced flannel-wearing hipsters were making lazily constructed films for their pretentious friends. They’d sit around in coffee shops, lifting their frothy beverages to their stupid faces with their spindly, horrible arms, making misinformed jokes about Kantian theory and how it applies to their shitty movie about two people sitting in a car for ninety minutes. After seeing Cyrus, the slightly less small budget spore that spewed forth from Mublecore’s steaming corpse, I’m not sure if I feel any different about the whole thing.

Predators: This Time, There’s More Than One

by Tom Paquin on Jul.09, 2010, under Reviews

Predator

It’s best to ignore the fact that there were more than one of the Predator things in their two previous celluloid outings, Aliens Versus Predator and that other one, mostly because those predators weren’t participating in The Most Dangerous Game. It’s also probably best to forget about those films entirely, and given society’s predisposition for swift regurgitation of pop culture, many of you already have.

Toy Story 3

by Alicia Masse on Jul.07, 2010, under Movie News, Reviews

Editors Note: Late due to editors vacation

It occurred to me the other day how old I am getting. This shocking revelation came due to the fact that it has been FIFTEEN years since the first Toy Storywas released in 1995. Well, finally after ELEVEN years since the second installment in 1999, a third (and I’m assuming final) chapter has been released. And what a heart-warming tale it was. (continue reading…)

by Joseph Smith on Jun.19, 2010, under Other Jargon

There's an eel in my boot!

As co-founder of The Fake Reel, Faker Eel, Fake-Reel, I’d like to welcome new writers Alicia Masse and Tom Paquin. Though we have not formally met, you two have posted more than Mike and I combined in days weeks.

As many of you may know, one must go through several trials and tribulations to work at Fake-Reel. One must go through Heaven and Hell to attain the prestigious status of “Fake-Reel Writer”. That they passed is an achievement in it’s own. Congratulations.

Splice

Splicer

LOL SPLICE: I CAN HAZ... I can't do this.

This movie is a classic example of how misleading trailers can be. Here, I thought it was going to be a horror movie. Not exactly the case. But we press on after the jump. (continue reading…)

Lucas Always Intended Star Wars To Be A Commercial

by Michael Schondek on Jun.05, 2010, under Movie News

I’ve often wondered what George Lucas would do if he ever rerereremaster the original Star Wars. Adias went ahead and took that concept and in turn probably pissed off Harison Ford and the ghost of Alec Guinness. I mean Snoop Dog really? At least Daft Punk look like they can fit in ad I’d expect the band Oasis to be seen in a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Even that weird looking kid, Jay Baruchel looks like he might fit. Watch and judge for yourself.

Super Empire Strikes Back: WHAT????

by Tom Paquin on May.26, 2010, under Movie News

As a symbol of honor towards the thirtieth anniversary of the only Star Wars movie worth mentioning as representation of progression in the art of cinema, I have taken a look back at its most inexplicable of offspring, the Super Nintendo adaptation–Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Boxy

On the surface, yeah, we’re just dealing with a new Star Wars game. Big D. There had been a fistful of ones and zeroes spewed mercilessly upon each of the previous gaming systems up to that point. There had been Star Wars for the Atari, wherein you pilot a small green dot towards a larger orange dot, and The Empire Strikes Back for the original Nintendo, where an italian plumber jumped on a series of mushroom men, cascaded against a backdround of whimsy and delight. These games were competent adaptations, and representative of the quintescential world of video gaming. Few games, though, have more fully manifested the fever dreams of a paranoid skitzophrenic with the visceral bluntness of SSW: TESB.
